Thursday - Easy 2 mile run w/ Lucy.  My first run since the Gold Rush 100k.  I've been tossing around the idea of running the Folsom Run w/ Nature 5k on Saturday and wanted to see what my legs feel like when I run.  Turns out, they feel pretty good!

Saturday - The 2nd 5k race I ever ran was the 2006 Folsom Run with Nature.  It's a Folsom tradition and this was its 30th annual occurrence.  In 2006, I finished in 33:41, a 10:51 min/mile pace.  I remember being upset at missing my goal of finishing under 30 minutes (I later found that I likely would have achieved my goal, since at the time, the course was nearly a half mile long).  Missing this goal only strengthened my resolve and inspired me to focus on how to train properly.  At that time, I never imagined where running would take me.

Though the course and venue have since changed, the race continues to be an extremely well run, family friendly event.  I woke up at 7 am, grabbed some oatmeal, headed over to the race venue, and registered myself.  There was a bit of a delay to the start, due to a small grass fire in the vicinity of the course.  The FD was on top of things and at ~9:15 am, we were off!

The course has a fairly steep downhill start, runs a small loop, and then returns back uphill for a modified out and back route.
  Mile 1:   6:15
  Mile 2:   7:06
  Mile 3:   7:58
  Last ".1":  5:50/mile pace

Official time: 21:23, 6:54 min/mile, good for 2nd place in the 30-39 age group and 11th place out of 432 finishers.

2nd place age group medal, free car wash, and a $20 Fleet Feet gift certificate! :)

Gave some (much needed) TLC to the yard after the race!
